DHL Discover Logistics

About 8 months ago, DHL Express launched a stimulation called “discover logistics”. This is an on-line game which gives the participants particular goals to be achieved.

The prizes of the game stated below;

"Attractive prizes with a total value of over 50,000 Euros await the winners: Management trainings, travel vouchers as well as VIP tickets to Formula 1 races or the IMG Fashion Weeks. All finalists will have the opportunity to establish contact with top managers of the global logistics leader at the group headquarters of Deutsche Post World Net and experience DHL close up as a potential employer. They are invited to attend exciting social events in Bonn and Berlin, including a reception at the German Foreign Office."

DHL Discover Logistics stated “Logistics is a truly global business with excellent career opportunities for highly-qualified graduates and professionals from all backgrounds.“Are you entrepreneurially-minded? Do you thrive in an international, fast-paced environment? Are you keen to take on new responsibilities and challenges?DHL invites you to experience this dynamic industry in Discover Logistics."

My major at the university was not about logistics, however this quotation encouraged me and I signed up to get more knowledge about the process of logistics. I was able to see how the process works and how the company takes decisions. Unfortunately, I could not make it to the main level due to the fact that there were so many professional participants. But this never discouraged me and I wanted more to be a part of DHL.

Unknown Phase of the Process

While the HR Department was on my references, I was the unluckiest man because the global financial crisis occurred. I wouldn’t have felt very unlucky if I had not quit my job. Yes, I know. I should not quit my job before getting the new one, but how could I know that the global crisis was coming?

HR employees answered my questions and I am very glad that they did. But they did not know what to do either and they said that all the job applications have been frozen. They did not give the exact answer, however anyone can guess that this was caused by the global crisis.

Second Phase of the Interview

After one month, they called me for the second interview and I met one of the supervisors of the operations department.

It was a quite impressive interview, because I wanted so badly to work for DHL. He took notes about me and HR told me that they would get to the third phase and call my references to get information about my business career.

First Phase of the Interview

I can’t remember the exact date, it must be the end of July I guess, I had an interview with one of the employees of HR Department.

Firstly, I took two tests; the English test and the general ability test. I believe that I made a well-done score in the both tests.

After the tests, I had the interview which lasted 30 minutes and the interviewer told me that they would call me again to meet the director of the operations department.
